Fall Festivals Announced for Foliage Fun in New Hampshire

Waterville Valley Resorts Fall Foliage Festival has been announced for Columbus Day Weekend, October 7th 10th, 2011.That follows the 13th Annual Chili Challenge, held from noon until the chili is gone, Saturday October 1st in Town Square
To complement the brilliant fall foliage, the Fall Foliage Festival will include a full weekend full of family activities. Saturday fun include the Curiosity Club for Kids at the Curious George Cottage, a juggling show, kids games and crafts, outdoor concert, merchant tent sales, Curious George story hour, astronomy and stargazing with the Rey Center, kids night out at the Recreation Department, and more. On Sunday, the day is kicked off with a 5K-road race and 1.6K fun run, followed by a bobbing for donuts contest, Curious George story hour at the Rey Center, Travelin Barnyard farm animal petting area, free outdoor concert by the Tammy Jackson Band, pumpkin painting, kids activities, mini pie eating contest, caramel apple-making station, and a campfire on the beach. Monday morning kids and adults can attend a free live animal presentation put on by the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center .
Winter enthusiasts can gear up for the season at Sport Thomas annual sale, taking place Friday through Monday next to the Waterville Valley Ice Arena. The Waterville Valley Black & Blue Trail Smashers will hold their annual ski and board swap on Saturday and Sunday.
The hotels of Waterville Valley Resort will offer a Fall Foliage Festival package deal that includes two nights lodging, and Summer Unlimited activities starting at $ 49 per person, per night based on quad-occupancy. The resort is only a few short steps from the nations oldest network of hiking trails.
Before that, things heat up at Waterville Valley Resorts 13th Annual Chili Challenge, held from noon until the chili is gone, Saturday October 1st in Town Square. Waterville Valley area restaurants will have the chance to compete for the title of the King of Chili. Visitors will pay a small fee, which gives them access to sample all of the restaurant entries. After sampling each chili, guests can vote for their favorite. Free outdoor concert in the gazebo accompanies the cook-off.
Also for the first time, White Mountain Storytelling Festival comes to Waterville Valley, presented by the New Hampshire Storytelling Alliance, and featuring internationally acclaimed storyteller Michael Parent with 18 other storytellers, there will be something for people of every age. The stories will be told by Michael Parent who is a storyteller, author and musician who draws his Franco-American heritage to perform a unique blend of stories, songs, and one man shows Friday night will be ghost stories in the Town Square gazebo. Saturday storytelling sessions interweave around the chili tasting schedule, with a special Saturday evening session with Michael Parent. Admission to all storytelling events will be $ 20.00 Admission to the evening storytelling concert only on Saturday is $ 10.
The weekend will have activities for the whole family including Curious George Story Time at the Rey Center, public climb times and open gym at the Recreation Department, and restaurants and shops open in Town Square.
